Terms
Last updated: 5 May 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and AI Identity Organization ("we" / "us"), the operator of the AI Identity registry. They apply to anyone who uses AI Identity — visiting aiidentity.org, calling the public verification APIs, or signing up for an account. By using the service you agree to them.
1. Plain summary
- You can browse the registry and call public verification APIs without an account.
- To register an identity, you need an account and you accept these terms.
- Don't register identities you don't have the right to operate, and don't use the registry to mislead people.
- Some features cost money. The price is shown at /pricing.
- The specification is open under CC-BY 4.0; the hosted service is not.
- We can suspend an identity, an account, or remove a record if abuse is found.
2. Accounts
You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe and for everything done under your account. Tell us at /contact if you suspect a breach.
Accounts are for a single user or a single organisation. Sharing one account between many unrelated people is not allowed.
3. The registry
The registry exists to make it easier to know who runs an AI agent. By registering an identity you confirm:
- You operate the AI agent, MCP server or system being registered, or you have written authority from the operator.
- The operator name, surfaces and configuration you list are accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- You will keep the record updated when material details change.
Identity records are public. Don't include personal data you don't want public. We may delete or revoke a record if it is misleading, infringing or otherwise contrary to these terms.
4. Acceptable use
You may not use AI Identity to:
- Impersonate any person, organisation, AI agent, MCP server or brand you are not authorised to represent.
- Reserve a likeness handle to claim someone else's name, voice or likeness.
- Run automated abuse against the public APIs (denial of service, scraping that bypasses rate limits, credential stuffing).
- Use the registry as part of fraud, deception or any unlawful activity.
- Attempt to break our security, reverse-engineer our private cryptographic keys, or interfere with other users.
- Resell access to the registry or its APIs except via the white-label and reseller programmes published at /whitelabel and /issuers.
We can suspend or terminate accounts for breaches and may report serious abuse to the relevant authority.
5. Verifications and badges
A verification or tier badge means we accepted certain evidence at the time of issue. It is not an endorsement and does not transfer responsibility for what an AI agent says or does to AI Identity Organization. Operators remain responsible for their own products.
6. Billing
- Prices and what they include are listed at /pricing.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel from your dashboard.
- You can change tier at any time; the change takes effect at the next renewal unless we agree otherwise.
- We don't usually refund partial periods. If a charge is clearly wrong, contact us and we'll fix it.
- Taxes are added where required.
7. The specification (open) vs the service (not open)
The technical specification at /spec is published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. You can implement, fork or build on it.
The hosted registry service — the database, dashboards, APIs, code, and brand — is not covered by that licence. Don't copy the service. Don't use the AI Identity name or badge mark in ways that suggest endorsement; see /brand.
8. Availability
We aim for high availability but do not currently offer a contractual uptime SLA outside paid Enterprise agreements. We may deploy changes, run maintenance, and modify or remove features. Material changes will be announced.
9. No warranty
The service and the specification are provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
10. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited (for example, fraud or death or personal injury caused by negligence). Subject to that, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these terms is capped at the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) £100. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold AI Identity Organization harmless against any claim arising from your registered identities, your use of the service, or your breach of these terms.
12. Changes to these terms
We can update these terms. Material changes will be announced on the homepage and emailed to active accounts at least 30 days before they take effect. Your continued use after that period means you accept the updated terms.
13. Termination
You can stop using the service at any time and ask us to delete your account at /contact. We can suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms or where required by law. Public records may remain in revoked state so existing verifiers can see the change.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts. Nothing here removes any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
